Use radio to spread the love (and your business) on Valentine’s Day

It’s that day of the year when you want to woo your loved one. Get them exquisite gifts, treat them to some of the world’s most loved cuisines, get all mushy, and make it an elaborate affair. While most of us are wondering how to make this day special for our Valentine, businesses are thinking the same. With their products and services, of course!

But how do businesses break through the advertising and marketing clutter and ensure that their “specials” stand out? Look to advertising on radio. It works.  According to the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB), radio ad revenue grew by 3.8% in 2012, and the top 10 advertisers on radio in UK increased their radio ad spend by over 35% when compared to 2011. They would not be spending money if they were not getting results.

According to the Managing Director of RAB, “”Brands have recognised the enduring power of radio to quickly reach mass audiences, and 2012 delivered commercial radio’s third consecutive year of growth”.

And here are some tips to help you cut through the competition, reach your radio audience and market it right this Valentine’s Day -

  1. Give Them The Deal of Their Lives: Design a campaign that targets on “giving more” and explain why the customer should “buy it today”. Mention offer cut-off dates and applicable hours in your radio ad.
  2. Keep It Playful: It’s Valentine’s Day folks! Personalize your radio spot to get it in tandem with the mood of the day. You don’t have to hard sell it – just keep it entertaining enough to catch attention.
  3. Give it away: An extra cherry on top never goes wrong!  The term “free” always makes the listener lend a second ear!
  4. Be precise: You have only seconds to catch your listener’s attention. If you are a retailer or a restaurateur, rattle off the day, time, venue, and the deal, and make it easy for them to connect with you – either via phone, website, or social media. Use every advertising weapon at your disposal to connect and inform.
 
So, you are now equipped to battle for attention in the Valentine’s Day hoopla. Go spread the love. And your business.
